I’m not exactly sure why, but twins have always fascinated me, especially identical twins. I can remember as a child always wanting a twin sister. Perhaps it was because I always felt a bit socially awkward growing up, and having a twin meant that I would always have a best friend; someone who understood me.
I’ve been wanting to start this personal photography project on twins for some time now. Something always seems to get in the way. It was time to put my foot down and do this! Thankfully, my friend Brieanna has twin girls and was happy to oblige my request.
I have photographed twins before, but this time I wanted to do a little interview with Taryn (in blue) and Kylar (in pink) to see exactly how identical they are, or are not!
While I was editing, I put these two images side by side, and I can see a noticeable difference now but I can assure you they are scientifically identical twins.
Here are some of the questions I asked them:
Which twin is older? Taryn by 10 minutes.
Do you finish each other’s sentences? Yes
Do you often answer in unison when being asked a question? They both said yes. Mom indicated that it’s happening more often as they get older.
Are you best friends? YES! The photographs below definitely confirm that!
What’s the best thing about being a twin? They both said “tricking people”!
Are you good at sharing with each other? Sometimes/Most of the time. They went back and forth on this answer!
They both proudly told me that they love unicorn poop, slime, glitter, YouTube and Katy Perry. They both prefer to run instead of walking, Harry Potter over Pokemon, Chocolate over Vanilla, Sweet vs Sour and that their favourite place is Canada’s Wonderland.
I asked them if one is sick, does the sister that isn’t sick have sympathy pain or ill feelings for the sister that is sick. They seemed a bit confused, but Mom said that did happen once when they were quite young when one had an ear infection, but the twin without the ear infection said her ear was hurting!
Finally, I asked Brieanna what the best thing was about being a mom of twins, and she said “Twice the Hugs”. I would 100% agree with that.
It should be noted that big brother, Kade, said that his favourite thing about having twin sisters is that he has two people he can annoy! Oh, brother!
Thank you, Brieanna, Taryn and Kylar for this opportunity to get to know you better! I had tonnes of fun, and I enjoyed the almost endless “take a picture of me doing this!” from both of you.
I’m looking for more families of twins or triplets for my personal photography project. If you’re interested, please send me an email at jen[email protected] for more information!
